Today was quite the day! 7am wake up, 7:45 departure for snowmobile tour shake, 8:15 on the road. Our entry point to back country was in a town called Alpine about 35 mins drive south of Jackson. About 28 mins into the drive I asked the driver "when are we going to see old faithful?" His answer - "you are on the wrong tour!" Unfortunately for Sarah and I when we were signed up for the tour we were under the impression that we were going to be touring Yellowstone Nation Forest and going in to see geysers and clay pots. This is what we had been told to expect the night before but we go the switch-a-roo. In the end everything worked out GREAT. We had a fabulous time on some serious sleds. The trip we ended up doing was more "back country" oriented. Our guide (Jamie) was a great guy, a recent grad from Colorado College, who pretty much cut us loose after about 15mins. We ended up riding about 90+ miles in all, seeing 7 moose, herds of elk, getting a few sleds stuck in super deep snow, and getting a great tan all the while. Here are a few pictures from the day.
All in all the day was a success. Yes we are disappointed that we didn't get into Yellowstone but there still is time to go and get that done before we move onto Montana. In the meantime tomorrow we are planning on snow shoeing to Huckleberry Hot Springs in Teton National Forest. Lots of the locals have said the hike is beautiful, the hot springs are amazing and supposedly lots of wildlife (Buffalo's, elk, mule deer) hangout by the pools. If that is true I should have some pretty amazing pictures to share tomorrow night.
Stig I love the comments, I do have a blade and I am sure you have a "guy" out here but no thanks. In closing I will leave you all with picture evidence of Lesson Learned - 1
God save the king!
One things we learned on our honeymoon that I think you just learned as well: sometimes the best day trips come from getting lost! (or going on the wrong tour in your case) Drive safely!
